The Kimber Run, a social event, is open to all National Meeting members and will be held on Sunday April 4, 2010. The run will start from out in front of “The Shores Function Complex” on Military Road at West Beach at 9.00am. It is a social tulip-style navigation drive via the southern Adelaide hills, destination at Monarto.

This is a social event for those not competing in the Motorkhana. You will be given a goody bag with some brochures specific to the areas you will be driving through, so I suggest that you indulge in the local hospitality of the area.

This gives members a wonderful chance to see a lot of historic parts of the hills to the north of Adelaide. You will travel along quite a number of secondary roads which feature in the Classic Adelaide event held during November each year. So you will find plenty of gear changes will be needed but as there is no time limit to the event it is suggested that you make a day of it!
Of course you will have a chance to be with other MG drivers and experience the thrill of seeing MGs in front and lined up behind you; which is always something to remember.

We suggest that you spend some time in Hahndorf. This very historic town was first settled in 1839 by Prussian Lutheran families who all came out to South Australia from the eastern provinces of Prussia in a ship named “Zebra”. The Captain of this ship Capt. Dirk Hahn, stayed in Adelaide to ensure that these immigrants were settled. The settlers named their new town after him.

We leave you to choose somewhere to have morning tea here, plenty of quaint places to choose from!

The roads throughout these Hills towns were originally service roads for the delivery of goods to Adelaide and have basically survived from their early days, but have been surfaced with asphalt. So there are plenty of rises and falls from Hahndorf through Mount Barker and eventually a decent to the plains on the other side of the hills; these plains lead down towards the river which has another wonderful history, The Murray River.

This Kimber Run has been designed so that you can catch up with some of your friends who are competing at the National Meeting Motorkhana at Monarto. You are encouraged to stop for a while and see how a motorkhana is run and watch the skills of some of the drivers in car control.

There will be some food vans on site at the Big W complex but we have arranged for other more venues if you wish to sit down and enjoy table meals.

The following options are available:

  1. Drive to Murray Bridge to Murray Bridge Hotel – Award winning cuisine in Murray Bridge – Booking held for 200 members
  2. Drive to Murray Bridge to Dundee’s Hotel & Wildlife Park – Booking held for up to 200 members.

Details of how to get to these two luncheon locations is given in your run book.

As an alternative we suggest that you visit the Monarto Zoo, please visit their website at http://www.zoossa.com.au/monarto-zoo/zoo-information/tours. But they do suggest that you need to allow 4 – 5 hours for the visit.
